Portugal presents the Pavilion of Ambition and Action for the Climate at COP30
Portugal inaugurated its Pavilion at COP30in Belém do Pará, under the slogan "Ambition and Action for the Climate". The country thus reaffirms its commitment to carbon neutrality and the implementation of public policies focused on adaptation, mitigation and just transition.
At the opening session, the Minister for the Environment and Energy, Maria Graça Carvalho, highlighted Portugal's pioneering role in setting climate targets and presented the Water that Unites" strategydedicated to the conservation of water resources, the renaturalization of rivers and the prevention of floods.
A President of the Climate Agency, Ana Teresa PerezHe stressed that the Pavilion was conceived as an inclusive space for sharing experiences and knowledge, the result of a collaborative process involving the Águas de Portugal, the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, a House of Architecture and various Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Among the country's main climate challenges, the vice-president of the Portuguese Environment Agency, José Pimenta MachadoHe highlighted water shortages in the South and floods in the North, calling for water efficiency, the reuse of wastewater and the strengthening of technical and scientific knowledge for more effective management.
A Water that Unites" strategypresented by the administrator of the Águas de Portugal, Alexandra Serra, integrates 294 measures and focuses on four fundamental pillars - efficiency, resilience, innovation and cross-sector collaboration - with the aim of acting quickly and presenting concrete results at the next Conference of the Parties.
Closing the ceremony, the Secretary of State for the Environment, João Manuel EstevesHe stressed that this is "a strategy for everyone"He also stressed the importance of collective effort and aligning public policies with the needs of the planet.
